The Professional S3 is super fast. It breezes through the most demanding audio tasks you can throw at it. Part of the secret are the four lightning-fast Serial ATA 7200 RPM hard drives it ships with. With 8MB cache these drives are perfect for playing back scores and scores of linear audio tracks. As an added bonus, these drive run quiet as a whisper and provide robust enclave for your precious audio performances.
Included are:
- Capacities: 250GB | 320GB | 320GB | 320GB
- Speed: 7200 RPM
- Seek time: 8.5 ms avg
- Interface: Serial ATA/150 [1.5Gb/s]
We chose Seagate Barracuda hard drives because of extensive testing for reliability and performance. The Barracuda is also very quiet.

7,200 RPM | 8MB cache
The key to the awesome performance of the Professional S3 lies in its Serial ATA 7,200 RPM hard drives that provide 8MB of fast cache. The cache is sort of close storage for a drive and with 8MB to play with, the performance improvements are measurable
Serial ATA interface
Serial ATA interface has data transfer rates up to 150 MB/sec. With Serial ATA/150, users will have a choice of the fastest data transfer rates and interface functionality available.
Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) Motors
The hard drives are equipped with FDB motors. This technology allows the drive to operate with very low sound output for performance users who are concerned about excessive noise.
Delivering Reliability
The hard drives deliver high reliability and data integrity using the a robust Shock Protection System (SPS) rated to handle 350 Gs of non-operating shock. This level of protection adds up to safety against handling damage. Add to the Seagate's 3D Defense System and your protection extends against data loss also.

What does a Terabyte of Storage really mean?
A terabyte of storage is an awesome weapon in the arsenal of a music production workspace. It allows the creative person to remove storage limitations as a factor in production - keep your energy on music and we will make sure that you don't hit any fences. A terabyte of storage offers a humoungous amount of recording time - actually 3.300 hours of recording time which works out to 4.6 months of recording time. If you want to compare that to 24 track 2-inch tape, that would be an astonishing 551 tapes - end to end. With this amount of storage the recording task move to the creative challenges rather than the technical limitations of the computer. The MusicXPC S3 is a true professional system designed for hardcore, high intensity recording work.
This storage is especially important for the state-of-the-art sound libraries that are now on teh market. These libraries offer orchestral samples that are measures in Gigabytes per instrument. This means that you can accomodate most of the 10-30 GB libraries on your S3 without a second care. The S3 offers a dedicated hard disc that you can use to keep all your sound libraries.
