THIS CHASSIS NOT ONLY LOOKS AMAZING, IT IS AMAZING
The MusicXPC Professional houses the Shuttle FB77 motherboard, a tiny Flex ATX number that includes the all-important AGP and PCI slot. The motherboard provides a total of 8 USB 2.0 connections [4 external and 4 internal] as well as 2 IEEE1394 [Firewire] ports. It is also capable of supporting the new Intel hyper-threading Pentium 4 processors. All in all this motherboard provides everything the audio professional would need and more.

IDE & SATA
The FB77 supports 2 IDE connectors & 2 Serial ATA connectors. The IDE interface supports up to UDMA 100 and the SATA host controllers up to 1.2Gb/s (150/MB/s) data transfer rates. The C4 uses only Serial ATA drives so extremely high disk performance is possible when working on project with many linear audio and video tracks.

AGP8X & PCI
The FB77 integrates an 8x AGP 3.0 interface at 533 MHz. 8x AGP means access to high performance video cards. The C4 ships with a 128MB, NVidia GeForce FX5200, dual-head, 8x AGP graphics card. It also features an S-video output. This gives media producers access to dual monitor computing right out of the box. The PCI slot is your passport to a universe of audio interfaces. PCI offers audio hardware with the highest dynamic range available. There is one 32-bit PCI slot on the FB77 motherboard.

CHIPSETS
The FB77 is built around Intel 875P north bridge and ICH5 south bridge. This is the same chipset found in the Professional S2. The motherboard features integrated 128-bit Twin Bank memory controller, two 64-bit memory controllers and an 800MHz front side bus. A Broadcom 5788 Gigabit Ethernet controller means that you can play dozens of audio tracks over a CAT-5 cable. Yes, it's that fast. A VIA VT6307 IEEE 1394 controller brings 400 MB/s FireWire high speed serial bus to the front and back of the C4.

AUDIO CODEC
The FB77 employs Realtek's ALC658 AC'97 audio CODEC which offers 5.1 channel outputs. There is also Optical Digital In and Out as well as COAX digital output. While this is a perfectly decent audio output for monitoring, to do serious music production you would probably want to invest in a PCI, USB or FireWire audio interface. These interfaces offer higher sound quality and better latency performance.
